How to Get Started (or re-started) with Business Manager

I am not going to lie - I am not an expert in Facebook Business Manager.

Whew. What a relief now that THAT is out there.

We thought it would be interesting to share from this perspective, as I understand your frustration, concerns and feel your business manager pain.

In all honesty, I used Business Manager on the daily a couple years ago but on our team, my role is “Content Chick”. In other words, I spend most of my time developing content calendars and writing content on our Agora Pulse platform - a sweet third party app that allows us to plan our content calendars for multiple accounts all at one time.

But every now and then, I have to pop over to the ol’ Facebook Business Manager to clarify insights as we are creating content or to help the team out.

SET UP YOUR ACCOUNTS

If you simply want to know where to start, head on over to our Resource page. We have put together a downloadable to walk you through the process of setting up your accounts step by step.

GRM FACEBOOK BUSINESS MANAGER 101

In this downloadable, you will learn how to:

  1. Create your Business Manager account
  2. Add your accounts
  3. Set up payment methods for your ads
  4. Assign access levels across your team

If you are like me and already signed up your business page three years ago and it is collecting dust, here are some ways to kickstart back into it.

UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PAGES AND BUSINESS MANAGER

Once this is set up, some of our clients mention that they don’t notice a difference between managing a page from Pages and Business Manager or how it adds value. This is totally completely understandable.

If this is you, head over to Chelsea’s latest post to understand WHY you need it.

If it helps, I like to think of Business Manager as the umbrella, or roof under which your page, ad accounts, insights, projects all live. You can access all of the above through their individual side doors, but Business Manager offers you a Main Entrance + Foyer, a control centre, and a more efficient way to see all your data in one place. Using this tool, you can also control what levels of access what your people can do for each - you have the Master Key.

The whole purpose when Facebook created it is to make them easier (cough cough) and more secure when working with a team of people - which it does well.

Pro Tip: When you sign into your personal account, you can tell if you have transitioned to Business Manager if the outline is grey instead of blue.

BE BRAVE AND PLAY AROUND

My next recommendation is to hop on and play around for a bit. Click some buttons, see where they take you.

Try the following:

Run an ad or two.
Like Chelsea said last week, you want to ensure you have an Ad Account with an account limit when setting up your payment method. (Not sure? Check your Settings) This means if you’ve scheduled an ongoing page promotion advert or similar you will only ever get billed this maximum amount at any one time. This means no surprises on your credit card!

Then, try the following steps:
1. From your Business Manager dashboard, click Business Manager on the top left.
2. Find Create & Manage tab, click Ads Manager, then the green Create button.
3. From the pop-up box, click Select Guided Creation.
4. Choose your campaign objective, target your audience, set your budget and schedule, and choose your specific ad types.

Have questions about advertising? Give us a no pressure call - we can walk you through what we offer.

Set up a Facebook Pixel
Last week Chelsea also encouraged us to set up a Facebook pixel. If you’ve got a website and want to be able to track the traffic your driving from Facebook to your website, or a specific event on your website, or want to remarket to visitors who have visited your website but not taken any action, then a Facebook pixel is going to be your best friend.
Again, here’s how to setup a Facebook pixel from our friends at Social Media Examiner.

Audience Insights
See how many people on Facebook represent your perfect persona. You can use this to simply see how big specific market sizes are and identify your perfect advertising audience. Be sure to save it as a custom audience and then get promoting.

Get stuck? Don’t be afraid to use: Facebook Business Manager Help This has improved since I signed up a couple years ago. There are plenty of solutions and clear answers to your questions.
In short, Business Manager is just another tool in your box that can be used a variety of ways, based on your needs, business and willingness to step up and figure out how to weild it. If you would like some specialised guidance, be sure to give Chelsea a ring and she would love to help you take the next step — from wherever you are at!

Don’t forget: this month you can set up a 45 minute Boss Lady meeting dedicated to YOUR Business Manager needs, frustrations, and tools for only $47. She loves these 1-on-1 coaching sessions and can’t wait to meet with you!

Next week we have some experts from the USA sharing their own experience using these tools! Our team found their information insightful and we look forward to sharing it with you.
