What's the point of Facebook Business Manager?!

Business Manager - what is it?

Is it Boss Lady running Grass Roots Media?

Well yes….but not in the context we’re referring too.

Business Manager is a powerful management tool created by Facebook to help administrators of business Facebook pages, and now Instagram accounts, access all their marketing tools in one place.

Scared?

Don’t be.

It’s actually a really easy tool to setup and use because you determine how much of it you want and need to use. Therefore, you don’t need to worry about all the complicated ‘extra’ functions it offers. We will show you how to make the most of it over the coming month, but in the meantime I’m going to answer the question,

“Why use Business Manager?’ Isn’t being an admin of a page enough?”

For some small businesses {or those who are self-employed} being an administrator of a page might be enough. However, if you ever want to unlock the power of social media advertising or get help from a social media consultancy like us, then you need Business Manager.

In fact, it’s good practice to use it anyway...whether you think you need it or not, as you never know when some its functions will come in handy. Check out the top tips below for some inspiration.

From a security point of view, it keeps business and personal separate. You should always sign up with your business email and add colleagues through business manager. This means you don’t need to be friends with them on Facebook to give them a page role and keeps personal away from work. For your company it means they can always access the page if you leave as well by accessing business manager through your work email.

For those who’ve used it before you might think it’s a complicated beast. Any new innovation is, until you take the time to get to understand it and hey that’s what we’re here for. We love to coach our clients and friends through these processes to make the process easier.

Tip #1: Ad Accounts 

Once you’ve signed up for Business Manager (check out our free downloadable here for instructions) you want to ensure you have an Ad Account associated with your page. This means you can start advertising immediately. Ensure you set an account limit when setting up your payment method. This means if you’ve scheduled an ongoing page promotion advert or similar you will only ever get billed this maximum amount at any one time. This means no surprises on your credit card!

Tip #2: Facebook Pixel

Feeling brave? Setup a Facebook pixel. Don’t roll your eyes at me just yet. If you’ve got a website and want to be able to track the traffic your driving from Facebook to your website, or a specific event on your website, or want to remarket to visitors who have visited your website but not taken any action, then a Facebook pixel is going to be your best friend. This is probably my second most favourite tool of Business Manager.

Tip #3: Audience Insights. 

Love, love love this tool. Want to know exactly how many people are on Facebook that represent your perfect customer persona? Use this tool to identify your perfect advertising audience, save it as a custom audience and then get promoting. This is a marketers dream. Even if you just want to be nosey about how big specific market sizes are, this tool will give you all the information you need. It’s a pretty valuable tool for convincing the purse string holder or CEO that you should be using social media as part of your marketing strategy!

By now you should be amped at the opportunities Business Manager presents your business. If there is one piece of advice I want you to take in, it’s that you need to take time to set up your account, understand how it works and interacts with your page, as it is different to the page admin view you’re used to.

Extra Hint: Do you use Facebook Page app on your phone? If not you should! It holds all your business pages in one place and you don’t have to go through multiple steps in your personal Facebook app to get to where you’re going. Download it from the App Store or Google Play.
