Tool Tip: Sli.do

Social Media, meet real life.

Introducing Sli.do. Sli.do, simply put, is a tool that inspires audience interaction.

Used in company meetings, team meetings, conferences, and trainings audience members simply follow the process below, and are given the capability to listen to a speaker and ask questions in real time. The event lead can then moderate questions and answer when best suits.

In other words? Q&A sessions on steroids.

Recently the GRM team had the opportunity to use Sli.do at the Auckland Marketing to the Rural Sector ConfereNZ. The rest of my team utilised this tool ourselves a few months ago at NZ Agrifood Week, but this was my first time seeing it work in action. Anna

This time we experienced how it worked as audience members (Anna and Trista). As chair of the event, Chelsea used it to gauge the feeling of the audience, ask questions, and develop topics to be discussed.

It was fascinating to observe the conference take on a new dimension as a one way presentation quickly became a two-way conversation. New elements were introduced and typical barriers were reduced to rubble. For example,

  • anonymous capability removed embarrassment for vocalising a silly question in front of others.

  • ability to type questions in real time and carry on listening so questions were not forgotten.

  • one sided conversations quickly became two-way conversation as the questions could be reversed and the audience be polled for their opinion.

  • opportunities to agree/disagree with other questions by liking or ‘upvoting’ or ‘down voting’ what others have asked.

  • the speaker received immediate feedback on the tone of the audience or if something in their was not clear.

Why is this a Tool Tip on a social media blog?

A - We actually loved it. If you need a tool like this in your meetings or conferences, we highly recommend it.

B - Sli.do is social media.

We say B. because the essence of social media is the opportunity to use a digital platform to connect and network with others. (Even Merriam-Webster agrees.) In other words, exactly what Sli.do accomplished.

A digital platform creating opportunities to connect.

It was captivating to watch social media almost come to life and be used seamlessly between digital and verbal conversations.

It was also eye-opening to notice and discuss how social media may continue to evolve. Soon, tools like this will be old news and simply the status quo. Our children may grow up using similar tools in classrooms, universities and churches.

Where to next?! We are here for the ride.
