What's New in Social Media | Week Thirty One

Instagram Update ---- <3

On Wednesday morning NZ time, Instagram announced some further changes to the app and how it is used. Instead of it affecting the 'Story' function, this time it's related to commenting, blocking, and reporting.

The change is aimed at making the app ‘a welcoming place for everyone’
The changes include the ability to stop comments from showing. It also lets people put hearts ('likes') next to any specific comment. Previously, the ability to stop comments was a limited to a small number of high-profile accounts. But it will be made available to everyone in a few weeks, Instagram says.

These 2 new functions will be rolled out over the next couple of weeks and should do a good job of encouraging a respectful and more supportive online environment.

The company will also introduce a way for people to anonymously report self-injury posts, so that updates that appear to be a concern can be better dealt with and have added the note below which I think is fantastic <3

“If you believe that someone you care about may be thinking about injuring themselves, you can report it anonymously, and we will connect your friend to organizations that offer help. We have teams working 24 hours a day, seven days a week, around the world to review these reports.”

Unified Inboxes

As you can see in the image above - Facebook Pages, Instagram, and Messenger will soon share an inbox via the Pages Manager mobile app.

In agriculture we so often talk about collaboration - well, social media channels are leading by example. As Facebook owns Instagram, this isn't quite so far fetched but it's easy to see how useful this is going to be.

For businesses to keep track of messages, orders, requests, inquiries - it will be simple and streamlined - you'll be far less likely to loose a conversation based on not remembering who contacted you, through where!

The tabbed interface shows all your social stuff in one place, including Facebook comments and posts, reviews, messages, and Instagram comments.

Give it a couple of weeks to roll out into the update but if it's not there already - it won't be too far away!

Emotiki - Bleugh!

It's been a wee while in the making but Emotiki announced this week that the new 'emotiki' emoji range will be released on both Android and iOS before Christmas!

I'm super excited and can't wait to see these in action across the globe - Just look at that paua. I can't wait to see what else they have come up with!
