What's New in Social Media | Week Thirty Six

Seeds of Success

For anyone with an interest in social media marketing, graphic or interior design or purely just loves colours and stunning images, this is for you!

Design Seeds is an eye-catching website with matching beautiful Instagram and Facebook pages to take you on a colour journey. Pulling colours out of images to create pallets to work with in your own spaces.

When I look at this from a social media perspective I see business branding and images all tied together with colour schemes and reoccurring fonts to create a seamless and tidy timeline and style. I love nothing more that a tidy and themed Instagram feed (unlike my own eclectic mix of images!) and some of the highest performing Instagram accounts appear to have taken their styling seriously.

Social media aside, this would also be exciting to the home designer - Take a look and tell us your favourite!

The new way of staying safe.

Technology can be a burden at times and sometimes appears to be unnecessary. This clever app however is the ultimate safety accessory.

Glympse is an app that lets you text, email, post to Facebook or Tweet your exact location as well as sending it to any other compatible app on your phone. You also have the option of adding a message or allowing the app to track you for 15 minutes to 4 hours.

You can add a message or choose from some set options, for example:

Running late

Stuck in traffic

Made it home safe

I'm stuck, can you help

I think I'm lost

Coffee?

This is something I would also hope could be used should someone find themselves in a dangerous situation as an SOS. The option of tracking could save someones life and I will personally be trying it out for when I run alone and report back to my husband.

I see much value in this app and even better, it's free! For runners, kids catching a bus to school, driving in poor weather or letting someone know what time you will be expected.

One thing I think is missing at this stage is an emergency button. It could allow you to set an emergency contact that you push one button and it automatically sends your location and 4 hours tracking to that emergency contact. Perhaps with a simple 'Help' or 'I'm in trouble'.

Food for thought. In the meantime, check it out!

Facebook goes 90's!

Well it certainly grabs your attention!

Android and Facebook have got together to create a new word posting option where essentially it turns it straight into and image!

Back in April last year, it was reported that Facebook was experiencing a decline in original, personal sharing. Down 21% over a year from mid-2015! So on went the thinking caps and this is what was came out...

Personally it looks a little bit like when you were in primary and intermediate school and you had to create banners or title pages on Microsoft word and you could choose colour gradients and funky fonts or shapes - but hey, if it's what the people want then lets just rejoice that Android has something that Apple doesn't (nener nener neneeer)
