5 Ways to Use Video In Your Social Media Strategy

Implementing varied video content into our social media strategy sounds like a great idea….until we run out of ideas. We know video is important, but it’s easy to get into a content rut and create the same kind of video that you have always created.

We double-dog-dare you to try three of the following ideas within the next month. We will do the same.

5 creative ways to use video in your social media strategy

Time Lapse
A time lapse can make even the most mundane task seem interesting - one of our favourite instagram influencers frequently time lapses her laundry and it gets us every time.
Tip: This best works when seeing something happen from start to finish. Follow your product as its created, see it in action, catch a sunrise from your favourite view, or your animals over a period of time.

Bloopers
Last week Chelsea suggested adding your bloopers to your content plan. This is appropriate if humour is included in your tone of voice. If you edit your video and have a couple doozies - have a laugh at yourself and share them with the world. Everybody finds a little comic relief in the reality of humanity.

Boomerang
The ol’ boomy never fails. Like the classic toy from our neighbours across the ditch, it’s a short video that quickly moves forward and rewinds. The GRM team loves watching a good boomerang - be sure to tag us if you choose to accept this challenge!

Live Video
We’ve been doing this on Facebook for a year now and next week Monday, Anna will be talking using her monthly space about how much it has changed the GRM engagement rates and analytics. {spoiler alert - it’s for the better}*
We also suggest you try going Live on Instagram as well. There are some opportunities to be shared across platforms.
Tip: Try to be consistent in scheduled programming. Use this space to share in depth information and engage with your audience in real time.

Instagram Stories
The working mommas of the GRM team (Anna and Trista) both find ourselves pushing play on Instagram stories while we cook dinner for the family and have it playing in the background. Profiles that choose to share videos often have a captive audience as people let their stories play.
Tip: Keep these videos short, informative, and down to earth. Try using intermittent images with text and video to tell your story. People to follow: @justafarmerswife @natgeo

Day In the Life
Whoops - we got on a roll and shared 6. It’s always fascinating to see what a day looks like for others. If you are feeling up for the challenge, our Instabird (Isabel) just created this little beauty. Enjoy!

Your turn! In the next month, we hope you take us up on our challenge to try three new forms of video on your social media platforms. Be sure to tag us so we can cheer you on and help you boost your engagement!

*Throwback to a year ago when we eatured ‘Video’ as our first feature topic of the month, yet were terrified of using it ourselves. {can you say convicted?} Over time our team team is impressed by how far we have come and how video is one of our top ranking engagement statistic every month. Be on the lookout for more coming in the future!
